The National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) has announced multiple job vacancies as part of its ongoing mandate to strengthen environmental governance in Kenya. Established under the Environmental Management and Coordination Act (EMCA), Cap 387, NEMA is the principal government agency responsible for coordinating, supervising, and implementing environmental policies and regulations across the country.
In this recruitment drive, NEMA is seeking qualified, experienced, and motivated professionals to fill positions across technical, legal, administrative, and support functions. The opportunities span various grades and contract terms, including both permanent and pensionable roles as well as renewable contracts.
Among the senior positions available is the Director of Environmental Services (Grade E2), offered on a three-year renewable contract. This role is expected to provide strategic leadership in environmental services and policy implementation. NEMA is also recruiting a Senior Principal Legal Officer (Grade E4) on permanent and pensionable terms to support legal compliance, enforcement, and advisory functions.
Several Grade E5 positions are open, including Principal Risk Management Officer and Principal Internal Auditor, both on permanent and pensionable terms. These roles are critical to strengthening internal controls, risk assessment, and accountability within the Authority. At Grade E7, NEMA has advertised positions for Environmental Ecosystems Officers (three posts), a Graphics Designer, a Quantity Surveyor, and other technical specialists, reflecting the Authority’s multidisciplinary operational needs.
Additional opportunities exist at Grade E9 for ICT Assistants, Records Management Assistants, and Office Administrative Assistants, each with two vacancies and permanent and pensionable terms. For support services, NEMA is also hiring Drivers at Grade E11 on three-year renewable contracts.
