WAAW Foundation Scholarship 2025 for African Female Students ($500 Award).
The WAAW Foundation Scholarship 2025 is now open for applications, offering young African women the opportunity to pursue undergraduate degrees in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields. The program, established by the Working to Advance STEM Education for African Women (WAAW) Foundation, aims to empower female students across Africa to excel academically and contribute to the continent’s technological and scientific growth. The application deadline is December 19, 2025.
The scholarship provides a one-time financial award of $500 to support tuition, academic materials, and research-related expenses. Beyond financial aid, WAAW encourages recipients to become role models and advocates for gender equality in science and technology through participation in the STEM Outreach Chapter at their universities. This initiative fosters peer mentorship, leadership development, and community engagement, enabling women to inspire others to pursue STEM careers.
To qualify, applicants must be female students of African origin, currently living and studying in Africa, and enrolled in a recognized university or college offering a STEM-related course. Eligible candidates must be in their first or second year of study, or in the third year if pursuing a five-year degree program. In addition, applicants must demonstrate financial need, maintain an excellent academic record, and show evidence of leadership, volunteerism, and community service. Only candidates below the age of 32 will be considered.
According to the foundation, the program is part of WAAW’s broader mission to address the gender gap in STEM education and professions in Africa. By supporting talented young women, the foundation hopes to create a network of innovators who will advance technological solutions to local challenges. Past scholars have gone on to become engineers, scientists, and educators who champion female inclusion in technical fields.
Applicants are required to complete the online application form on the WAAW Foundation website and provide personal statements detailing their academic goals, leadership experience, and community involvement. Shortlisted candidates may be contacted for further interviews or documentation to verify eligibility.
The WAAW Foundation Scholarship not only provides crucial academic support but also strengthens the participation of African women in the global STEM community. Through education, mentorship, and empowerment, it continues to shape a new generation of female scientists and innovators across the continent.
