Police in Buruburu, Nairobi, are investigating the death of a 41 year old man who was killed in a stabbing incident that occurred on Thursday morning. The case involves a 17 year old girl who has been arrested in connection with the incident as detectives continue to piece together the events that led to the fatal confrontation.
The deceased has been identified as Collins Onyango. According to police reports, Onyango was at his nephew’s residence in the Buruburu area when a disagreement arose between him and the teenage girl. The nature of the argument has not been fully disclosed, but authorities confirmed that the confrontation escalated inside the house.
Investigators say that during the dispute, the teenager allegedly picked up a kitchen knife and stabbed Onyango in the neck. A neighbor who witnessed the incident raised an alarm and immediately alerted the authorities. Emergency efforts were made to save the victim, and he was rushed to Edel Vale Trust Jamaa Mission Hospital in Buruburu for treatment.
Despite the quick response, Onyango was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital. Police officers from the National Police Service later visited the scene of the incident, where they recovered the knife believed to have been used in the attack. Both the residence and the hospital were processed by detectives as part of the investigation.
Following the incident, Onyango’s body was transferred to the Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital mortuary, where it is being preserved pending a postmortem examination. Police say the autopsy will help establish further medical details relevant to the case as investigations continue.
After the stabbing, members of the public reportedly attempted to attack the suspect before police intervened. The 17 year old girl sustained minor injuries during the commotion and was rescued by officers at the scene. She was taken to Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital, where she received medical treatment before being discharged.
The suspect has since been placed in police custody as detectives continue their inquiries.
