The Kenya Judiciary Staff Association (KJSA) has ushered in a new leadership team following elections held during its 12th Annual General Meeting (AGM) over the weekend. The newly elected officials have pledged to champion the rights and welfare of judiciary staff across the country, ensuring better working conditions, structured career progression, and enhanced representation.

New Leadership Team

The elections saw Micah Miruka elected as the new President of KJSA, taking over from Boru Wago, who completed his term. Miruka will work alongside Secretary General Oscar J. Soi and Treasurer Dennis Mutungi to steer the association’s agenda over the next three years.

Other elected officials include:

  • Elizabeth Wahu
  • Gikunda Kiogora
  • Quincy Shisia
  • Jane Omasaba
  • Edward Muiru

Additionally, Mohamednur Abdi, Tarsy Karambu, and Amrata Hassan were elected as trustees to oversee the association’s strategic goals and financial management.

Commitment to Staff Welfare and Professional Growth

In his acceptance speech, President Micah Miruka vowed to prioritize key issues affecting judiciary staff, including:

✅ Better Remuneration – Advocating for improved salaries and benefits.
✅ Structured Career Progression – Ensuring clear pathways for promotions and professional growth.
✅ Fair Transfer Policies – Addressing staff grievances related to transfers and postings.
✅ Stronger Representation in Disciplinary Cases – Enhancing legal and procedural support for judiciary employees.
✅ Enhanced Training and Capacity Building – Securing more professional development opportunities.
✅ Sports and Social Welfare Programs – Strengthening staff morale through engagement initiatives.

Miruka also called for unity among KJSA members, urging those who had not yet joined the association to come on board to strengthen its influence.

A United Front for Judiciary Staff

Secretary General Oscar J. Soi emphasized the importance of collaboration and unity within the association. He outlined his vision for a more harmonized approach to implementing the association’s manifesto and pledged to work closely with the Judiciary and the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) to enhance staff working conditions.

“We must stand together and ensure that our voices are heard. The leadership team will actively engage with relevant authorities to secure better terms and conditions for our members,” Soi stated.

He also encouraged full cooperation and solidarity among staff members, urging them to support the leadership’s agenda for meaningful change.

Seamless Transition and Election Integrity

Outgoing KJSA President Boru Wago congratulated the incoming leadership and assured a smooth transition of power. He expressed gratitude to the members for allowing him to serve and pledged his full support for the new team.

“I am confident that the new leadership will continue the mission of advocating for our members. I urge all staff to rally behind them to ensure progress,” Wago remarked.

Elections Board Chair, Stella Atambo, praised the peaceful and transparent election process and reminded the new leaders of their responsibility to deliver on their promises.

The Role of KJSA in the Judiciary

KJSA is a registered association under the Societies Act CAP 108 of the Laws of Kenya. It primarily represents non-judicial employees within the Judiciary and plays a crucial role in advocating for their rights, welfare, and career development.

Over the years, KJSA has successfully pushed for policy reforms affecting judiciary staff, including improved remuneration, job security, and enhanced work environments. The new leadership has promised to build upon these achievements by addressing current challenges and fostering a more supportive and professional workplace.

With a renewed commitment from the newly elected officials, judiciary staff members can look forward to a more empowered and well-represented future under the stewardship of Miruka and his team.
