The National Youth Service (NYS) has officially announced the dates for its 2025 nationwide recruitment of volunteer servicemen and women. The recruitment exercise is set to take place between Monday, February 10, 2025, and Saturday, February 15, 2025, and is open to eligible Kenyan youth aged 18 to 24 who meet the specified requirements.

In a notice released on January 28, 2025, NYS encouraged all interested candidates to prepare for the recruitment, which will be conducted in several counties across Kenya.

Recruitment Dates and Venues

The 2025 NYS recruitment will occur in 76 recruitment centers on the first day, followed by 73 centers on the second and third days, 76 centers on the fourth day, 81 centers on the fifth day, and three centers on the final day. The recruitment process will be carried out across the country, and NYS has released the detailed schedule and centers where recruitment will take place.

NYS Recruitment Requirements

To be considered for the 2025 NYS recruitment, candidates must meet the following requirements:

  • Kenyan Citizen: Must be a Kenyan national and a resident of the respective Sub County where recruitment is taking place.
  • Age: Candidates must be between the ages of 18 and 24.
  • Academic Qualifications: Applicants must have attained a mean grade of D plain or higher in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) or its equivalent.
  • Documentary Proof: Candidates must present their original National Identity Card and original academic certificates. One set of photocopies of these documents must also be provided.
  • Orphans: Orphaned applicants who meet the academic requirements will be given special preference, provided they can produce documentary proof (e.g., death certificates or burial permits).
  • Certificate of Good Conduct: Candidates must provide a certificate of good conduct and undergo a medical checkup during and after the recruitment process.
  • Physical Fitness: Applicants must be prepared to undergo rigorous physical training and should be willing to provide voluntary service anywhere in Kenya.

Inclusivity and Special Considerations

NYS has emphasized that persons with disabilities are encouraged to apply for the recruitment, as long as they are capable of withstanding the physical demands of the training. This inclusivity allows for a wider pool of applicants from diverse backgrounds.

What You Need to Know

  • No Corruption Tolerated: NYS has made it clear that corruption or canvassing in any form will not be tolerated. Anyone found engaging in bribery or unethical practices during the recruitment process will face automatic disqualification and possible prosecution. The public is encouraged to report any such incidents to the Director General at 020-2400129.
  • Success and Reporting: Successful candidates will receive their calling letters and will report for NYS paramilitary courses at NYS College, Gilgil and NYS Training Institute, Naivasha. The dates and times for reporting will be specified in the candidates’ calling letters.
