Marking the anniversary of the 2024 Gen Z-led uprising, peaceful protesters returned to the streets of Nairobi on June 25, 2025, blending activism with spirituality and moral conviction. Demonstrators carried placards quoting historical and biblical figures, symbolizing a protest movement increasingly shaped by faith, conscience, and non-violence. One banner, quoting Mahatma Gandhi, declared, “Non-violence is the greatest force at the disposal of mankind,” reflecting a commitment to peaceful resistance in the face of national discontent.
Another powerful message came from a protester dressed in white, holding a sign referencing Jeremiah 2:13 and urging young people to “turn back to God.” The sign further read, “To the Gen Z – You are brave, we see the fight, but we cannot do it minus God,” echoing the day’s overarching tone of moral reflection and spiritual unity. As hundreds marched through Nairobi’s CBD, the emphasis remained on non-violence, justice, and calling leaders to account without confrontation.
While security forces were stationed around Parliament and State House, the protesters opted for symbolic resistance, walking long distances, holding peaceful vigils, and raising their voices without aggression.
