Azerbaijan Donates Sh2.5 Million to Enhance Facilities at St. Ursula Chamakanga Special School

St. Ursula Chamakanga Special School, located in Sabatia sub-county, Vihiga County, has recently received a generous donation of approximately Sh2.54 million from the government of Azerbaijan. The funds, presented by Azerbaijan’s ambassador to Kenya, Sultan Hajiyev, are earmarked for the acquisition of learning materials, provision of basic necessities, and infrastructural development within the institution.

Governor Dr. Wilber Ottichilo, who accompanied Ambassador Hajiyev during the donation ceremony, expressed profound gratitude towards the Azerbaijani government and its people for their benevolence. He emphasized the county’s commitment to fostering partnerships in areas of mutual interest to strengthen this newfound collaboration.

In addition to the Azerbaijani contribution, Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has pledged Sh2 million to support the school’s initiatives. Dr. Ottichilo also committed to completing the ongoing construction of an Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) center and ensuring the institution’s access to clean and safe water.

The governor appealed to parents and guardians of differently-abled children to enroll them in schools, emphasizing the importance of providing equal opportunities for all members of society.

St. Ursula Chamakanga Special School is a public, co-educational day primary institution managed by a religious organization. Situated in the Busali West area of Sabatia, the school operates under the 8-4-4 education system, offering the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) as administered by the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC).

The school’s infrastructure comprises five classrooms, with a total enrollment of 62 students. The institution maintains a favorable student-to-teacher ratio of approximately 6.9, supported by five male and one female teacher employed by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC). Additionally, the school benefits from a dedicated non-teaching staff of 14 members, including five males and nine females.

These recent financial contributions are poised to significantly enhance the educational experience for students at St. Ursula Chamakanga Special School, addressing critical needs and promoting a more inclusive learning environment.
