Cristiano Ronaldo, the legendary Portuguese forward, has announced he will continue playing professional football until he reaches the milestone of 1,000 career goals. The 40-year-old recently netted two goals in Al-Nassr’s 3-0 victory over Al Akhdoud, bringing his total tally for both club and country to 956 goals.
Ronaldo joined Saudi Arabian side Al-Nassr in 2022 on a free transfer and renewed his contract last July, extending his stay with the club until after his 42nd birthday. Speaking at the Globe Soccer Awards in Dubai, where he was honored as the Best Middle East Player, Ronaldo said he remains motivated despite the challenges of continuing his career at 40. He emphasized his enduring passion for the game and his desire to keep competing at the highest level, whether in Europe or the Middle East.
“My goal is clear,” Ronaldo stated. “I want to win trophies and achieve the 1,000-goal mark. I am determined to reach it, provided I stay healthy.”
This season, Ronaldo has scored 13 goals in 14 matches for Al-Nassr, keeping the team four points ahead at the top of the Saudi Pro League. Since joining the club, he has scored 112 goals in 125 appearances, though the team has claimed only one trophy, the Arab Club Champions Cup in 2023.
Ronaldo holds multiple records, including the most goals for Portugal with 143 and for Real Madrid with 450. He is also the only player to have scored over 100 goals for four different clubs: Manchester United, Real Madrid, Juventus, and Al-Nassr. The striker has confirmed that the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico will be his final international tournament. He captained Portugal to their first major international title at Euro 2016 in France.
Ronaldo’s commitment to reaching 1,000 goals highlights his enduring influence on football and his remarkable consistency across multiple leagues and decades. Fans around the world will be watching closely as he continues to chase history.
