Egerton University Suspends Teaching and Learning Due to Ongoing Staff Strike

Egerton University has announced the suspension of all teaching and learning activities following the ongoing industrial action by the Universities’ Academic Staff Union (UASU) and the Kenya Universities Staff Union (KUSU), which has disrupted normal operations.

In a statement released after the 580th Senate meeting held on Tuesday, 4th November 2025, the University Senate resolved to formally halt academic activities until the dispute between the unions and university management is resolved.

As part of the directive, students have been instructed to vacate university premises by Wednesday, 5th November 2025 at 2:00 p.m.

However, the suspension does not affect Medical and Law students, international students, or postgraduate students, who are expected to continue with their academic programs as usual.

The University assured students that updates regarding the resumption of academic activities will be communicated through the official website (www.egerton.ac.ke) and the university’s social media platforms.

In the statement, the Senate expressed regret over the disruption caused by the industrial action and apologized for the inconvenience. Students and stakeholders seeking clarification have been advised to contact the university through 0703839401 or via email at raca@egerton.ac.ke.

Prof. Mwanarusi Saidi, Registrar (Academic Affairs), signed the official communication on behalf of the University Senate.
