Keiyo North Constituency Launches Sh60 Million Bursary Fund to Support Students

Keiyo North Constituency Launches Sh60 Million Bursary Fund to Support Students.

Keiyo North Sub-County has taken a significant step to support its students’ educational pursuits by launching a Sh60 million bursary program. This initiative, spearheaded by the local National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF), aims to alleviate financial burdens for students in secondary schools and tertiary institutions, including universities.

During the launch event at Kessup Secondary School, Keiyo North Member of Parliament Adams Kipsanai emphasized the program’s goal of ensuring that no student discontinues their education due to financial constraints. He assured both parents and students of the efficient distribution of funds, facilitated through a partnership with Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB). This collaboration ensures that cheques are processed promptly and deposited directly into school accounts, expediting the disbursement process.

For students attending institutions outside the constituency, arrangements have been made to send their bursary allocations via courier services, ensuring inclusivity in the program’s reach.

Beyond the bursary initiative, MP Kipsanai highlighted an existing scholarship program within the constituency. This program currently provides full support to 37 university students and 500 tertiary students, with a significant number enrolled at Kipsoen Polytechnic. The overarching objective of these educational support initiatives is to uplift the community by enhancing access to quality education.

Parents present at the launch expressed their gratitude, acknowledging that the bursary would significantly ease the financial challenges associated with school fees.

MP Kipsanai also underscored the pivotal role of the NG-CDF in addressing educational challenges. He noted that the fund plays a crucial role in resolving community issues and improving the livelihoods of the people, with education being a primary focus.

This initiative aligns with similar efforts in other regions. For instance, in September 2024, Nandi County Government disbursed Sh60 million in bursaries to needy students across the county, benefiting those in universities, secondary, primary, and special groups.

Similarly, in January 2024, Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja unveiled an Sh857 million bursary program aimed at supporting over 124,000 financially challenged students in public primary and secondary schools across Nairobi.

These concerted efforts reflect a broader commitment across various Kenyan counties to invest in education and ensure that financial constraints do not hinder students from pursuing their academic goals.
