KNEC Begins Inviting Teachers for KJSEA 2025 Marking Exercise.
The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has officially started inviting teachers to participate in the marking of the 2025 Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA). The exams were administered between October 20 and November 3, and marking is scheduled to take place this November, with results expected in December 2025.
The KJSEA marks a historic transition from junior school (Grade 9) to senior school (Grade 10) under the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC). KNEC has confirmed that candidates will not receive certificates but rather individual learner report forms, similar to the KPSEA results. Learners will only receive one national certificate — the Kenya Certificate of Basic Education (KCBE) — after completing Grade 12, marking the end of basic education from PP1 to Grade 12.
The marking exercise will run for two weeks, with selected institutions serving as official marking centres. These include Moi Girls Nairobi (Kiswahili), St. George’s Girls Nairobi (CRE/IRE/HRE), Mary Hill Girls (Social Studies), Alliance High School (English and Creative Arts & Sports), Isinya Girls (Integrated Science), and Pangani Girls (Pre-Technical Studies).
For multiple-choice questions in subjects such as English and Kiswahili Paper 1, KNEC will utilize Optical Mark Recognition (OMR) machines for faster processing. However, open-ended and creative writing papers will be marked manually by trained teacher examiners.
Earlier this year, KNEC conducted comprehensive examiner training sessions — both online and residential — across the country. Training centres included Machakos Girls (Kiswahili), Maryhill Girls (English), Murang’a TTC (Business Studies), Kilimambogo TTC (Agriculture), St. Francis Girls Mang’u (Mathematics), and Sunshine Secondary School (History and Geography), among others.
To qualify for training, teachers were required to:
-
Be TSC-registered and actively teaching the relevant subject,
-
Hold at least a Diploma in Education,
-
Have a minimum of three years’ teaching experience,
-
Be aged 50 years or below,
-
And pay a training fee of KSh 10,500.
Interested teachers are invited to apply via the KNEC Examiners Portal at https://examinersapp.knec.ac.ke. Those with CP2 accounts can log in using their existing credentials, while new applicants are required to create an account, complete their profiles, and submit applications for available subjects. Selection will be on a first-come, first-served basis for qualified candidates.
