M-PESA to Undergo Scheduled Upgrade on 22nd September 2025

Safaricom has announced a planned M-PESA system upgrade that will take place on Monday, 22nd September 2025, between 12:30 AM and 3:30 AM. The three-hour maintenance exercise is part of the company’s continued efforts to enhance the reliability, safety, and efficiency of its mobile money services.

During the scheduled upgrade, all M-PESA services, including money transfers, payments, and airtime purchases, will be temporarily unavailable. Safaricom noted that the timing of the exercise has been carefully chosen to minimize disruption to customers.

For the past 18 years, M-PESA has been a key driver of financial inclusion in Kenya, enabling millions of customers to access safe and convenient digital financial services. The company emphasized its commitment to providing worry-free and secure transactions while apologizing for any inconvenience caused during the maintenance window.
