Position Title: Medical Laboratory Technologist
Location: PCEA Kikuyu Hospital
Reports To: Laboratory Manager
Employment Type: Full-time
Job Purpose
To ensure provision of quality, reliable and timely medical laboratory services in compliance with ISO15189:2022 standards, MOH guidelines and institutional policies.
· Conduct the laboratory tests carefully and accurately in accordance with the set standard operating procedures.
· Ensure proper maintenance of all the laboratory equipments and reports any problem experienced with a machine for assistance or for any repair required.
· This position calls for co-operation with other Laboratory staff and collaboration with other health care providers.
· Evaluate specimens received by laboratory and organize workflow to provide optimum efficiency of testing and turn around times of results.
· Perform quality control, validation, and other quality activities to verify performance of assays.
· Evaluate inventory of supplies and reagents and communicate order needs.
· Maintain records of test results and archives of data.
· Maintain a safe, neat and clean work environment.
· Archive and track specimens.
· Perform proficiency testing to maintain compliance with regulatory agencies.
· Train new laboratory staff and interns.
· Assist department in writing and maintaining standard operating procedures in the laboratory and document knowledge by reviewing and signing SOPs.
· Performing the workstation monitoring tasks and fill their respective logs.
· Follow established quality management policies and good laboratory practice.
· Perform and document corrective action, including follow-up monitoring to gauge the effectiveness of the corrective action.
· Performs any other task related as assigned by the Supervisor.
Academic Qualifications:
- Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology from a recognized institution.
- Registration with Medical Laboratory Technologists and Technicians Board (KMLTTB).
- A valid practicing license from KMLTTB.
- At least 2 years post registration experience preferably in a healthcare setting.
- Training and certification in Quality Management Modules such as ISO 15189:2022 implementation, uncertainty of measurement and method validation will be an added advantage.
