Open University of Kenya Announces 2nd Graduation Ceremony to Be Held on November 28, 2025.

The Open University of Kenya (OUK) has officially announced the date for its much-anticipated 2nd Graduation Ceremony, which will be held on Friday, November 28, 2025, at the Konza Technopolis Grounds. The ceremony, set to begin at 9:00 a.m., will celebrate students who successfully completed their studies during the 2024/2025 academic year and qualified for the award of Postgraduate Diplomas and Progressive Certificates. As one of Kenya’s newest yet rapidly growing higher education institutions, OUK’s second graduation symbolizes the university’s expanding role in promoting flexible, technology-driven learning opportunities across the country.

According to an official statement from the Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic Affairs), the University is keen on ensuring a smooth and well-organized event. All graduands are required to confirm their graduation status with their respective Schools after verifying that they have met all academic and financial obligations, including full payment of fees. Additionally, each graduand must check the accuracy and order of their names as they should appear on official graduation documents. The deadline for confirming these details has been set for Friday, November 14, 2025, to allow sufficient time for final verification and preparation of certificates.

The University has also outlined clear financial and logistical requirements to guide graduands ahead of the big day. Each student participating in the ceremony will be required to pay convocation, alumni registration, and graduation attire fees, depending on their category of award. Postgraduate Diploma graduands will pay a total of KShs 5,000, which includes KShs 2,500 for convocation, KShs 1,000 for alumni registration, and KShs 1,500 for graduation attire. Meanwhile, Progressive Certificate recipients will pay a total of KShs 2,500, comprising KShs 1,000 for convocation and KShs 1,500 for graduation attire.

To streamline payments and enhance transparency, the Open University of Kenya has directed all payments to be made exclusively through eCitizen, accessible via the student’s portal at https://my.ouk.ac.ke. The institution emphasized that this online payment method ensures accountability and convenience while maintaining the integrity of the graduation process. Graduands are reminded that all fees must be paid in full before collecting graduation attire, and failure to comply may lead to disqualification from participating in the ceremony.

In preparation for the event, graduation attires will be available for collection from the respective Schools starting Monday, November 24, 2025. The University has emphasized the importance of returning the attires promptly, noting that all gowns must be returned by Thursday, December 11, 2025. Any gowns returned after this date will attract a late return penalty of KShs 1,000 per day, applicable even on weekends and public holidays. This policy ensures that gowns are available for future ceremonies and that the University maintains efficiency in attire management.

Graduands are also required to attend the mandatory rehearsal scheduled for Thursday, November 27, 2025, beginning at 10:00 a.m. at the Konza Technopolis Grounds. The rehearsal is an integral part of the graduation process, as it provides important instructions on ceremony procedures and seating arrangements. Attendance in full graduation attire is mandatory, and the University has stressed that those who miss the rehearsal will not be permitted to participate in the official ceremony the following day.

On the day of the event, all graduands and invited guests are expected to be seated by 8:00 a.m. to ensure the ceremony begins promptly at 9:00 a.m. The University has made it clear that late entry will not be permitted, reflecting OUK’s commitment to maintaining order and professionalism throughout the proceedings. As part of modernizing its operations, OUK will issue electronic invitation cards to all graduands and guests. Each graduand will receive a digital card that allows them to print a copy for themselves and their invited guests. University officials and other invited dignitaries will also receive similar electronic invitations.

The Open University of Kenya, which has rapidly become a pioneer in open and distance e-learning in Kenya, continues to leverage digital innovation to deliver accessible, flexible, and quality education to learners across the region. The upcoming graduation ceremony marks a major milestone in the institution’s mission to empower learners through inclusive and technology-enabled academic programs. By holding the event at Konza Technopolis, Kenya’s flagship smart city, the University underscores its deep connection to innovation, research, and the future of digital education.

The Office of the Registrar (Academic Affairs) has encouraged graduands to regularly check their university emails and official communication platforms for updates related to the ceremony. For inquiries or assistance, students can contact the Registrar’s Office through telephone numbers +254 702 212 212 / +254 703 211 211 or via email at info@ouk.ac.ke.
