President Ruto Condoles With Family Of Late NTSA Board Member Richie Mweka

President Ruto Joins Kenyans in Mourning NTSA’s Richie Mweka

President William Ruto has condoled with the family of the late National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) board member Richie Mweka, describing his death as a painful loss to his loved ones and to the nation.

During a visit to the family home, the President paid tribute to Mweka—also known as Richie Munyao—remembering him as an intelligent, hardworking leader whose warm personality touched many lives.

“Richie Mweka was an intelligent and hardworking gentleman with a warm personality. We celebrate his life and the many memories he leaves behind,” President Ruto said.

He extended his sympathies to Mweka’s family, including his close friend Michael Munyao, assuring them of his prayers during what he termed a profoundly difficult moment.

Mweka served as an NTSA board member from 2023 until his untimely death on November 21, 2025. He was 38 years old.

NTSA described him as an emerging leader whose contributions to road safety reforms were invaluable. During his tenure, he was instrumental in strengthening the Authority’s Road Safety and Audit Committees, where he was praised for his intellect, calm authority and strong moral compass.

“Richie’s legacy lives on in every life saved because he cared deeply and consistently championed safer roads for all,” the Authority said in a statement.

Tributes from across the road safety community poured in, with colleagues highlighting his sharp insights, unwavering standards and commitment to shaping key reforms aimed at improving Kenya’s road safety landscape.

NTSA Board Chairperson Khatib Mwashetani said he received the news of Mweka’s passing with deep shock and extended condolences to the family on behalf of the entire organisation.

Mweka was born in 1987 and is survived by his son, Charlie Muoki Munyao; his parents, Michael Munyao of Electrogen Technologies Ltd and Evelyn Munyao of Green & Gold Led; as well as his siblings, Phil Chege Munyao of Innovo and Natasha Ngina Munyac in Canada.

He was the grandson of the late Mweka Munyao and Susan Ngina Munyao of Mitaboni, and the late Philip Chege and Esther Gathoni Chage.

A family notice indicated that relatives and friends will gather for prayers and funeral arrangements at Karura Community Chapel, off Limuru Road, on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, from 6 pm.
