Ruto Tells Kenyan Men Above 25 to Start Families, Criticizes Club-Hopping
President William Ruto has challenged young Kenyan men to get married and start their own families, calling family the foundation of a strong nation. Speaking during the wedding of Qillian Ndeso Saiya and Moses Budamba Mudavadi at Ulinzi Sports Complex, Lang’ata, Ruto emphasized that a nation is only as strong as the families it builds.
Ruto addressed the audience with humor and urgency, targeting men over the age of 25: “The foundation of a nation is the firm foundation of a family…all the men in this room, get married,” he said amid laughter. He also criticized the trend of club-hopping, warning: “Wacha kuzunguka hapa, unatoka kwa club hii inaingia kwa club hiyo, unatoka kwa club hiyo unaenda kwa club hiyo ingine” (stop hopping from one club to another).
The President congratulated the newlyweds, Budamba, son of Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, and Qillian Saiya, noting that their union was a proud moment not just for the couple but also for their parents. He stressed that young men should embrace responsibility, courage, and commitment in family life:
“If you are a man, be man enough to marry the woman you love…be responsible, find a family, and carry your responsibilities home.”
Ruto’s remarks sparked applause and laughter, while also reigniting conversations about delayed marriages, youth responsibility, and social values in Kenya. He urged young men not to shy away from family life, emphasizing that courage and responsibility are central to nation-building.
