Thailand Launches ‘One District, One IT Man’ Project, Creating 878 New Digital Jobs

Bangkok, August 16, 2025 – Thailand has taken another major step toward strengthening its digital economy and bridging the technology gap between urban and rural areas. The government has officially launched the “One District, One IT Man” project, an ambitious program that will create 878 new digital jobs and place trained officers across the nation to improve digital access and public services.

The initiative is spearheaded by the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society (DES), under the leadership of Deputy Prime Minister and Digital Minister Prasert Jantararuangtong. According to Prasert, the project is designed not only to provide immediate employment opportunities but also to build long-term resilience in Thailand’s digital landscape.

“These new officers will serve as local digital liaisons, ensuring that government digital policies reach every community. At the same time, they will help citizens improve their technology skills and connect better with online services,” Prasert said during the launch event.

The 878 newly appointed District-Level Digital Administration Officers will work directly within communities, acting as the first point of contact for digital services. Their responsibilities include:

  • Helping residents access government e-services such as online registration, healthcare platforms, and digital ID systems.

  • Monitoring and supporting community digital centres across districts.

  • Coordinating with both public and private sectors to strengthen local digital networks.

  • Training citizens on digital economy skills using platforms like the Cyber Community Thailand (CCT) app and the “Learn to Earn” e-learning platform.

Officials emphasized that the project will also support the fight against misinformation. By promoting Media and Information Literacy (MIL), these officers will play a role in reducing the spread of fake news and building safer online communities.

To prepare for their roles, all officers will participate in five intensive workshops across the country. The training sessions will cover cybersecurity, public digital service delivery, and methods for engaging with local communities. The first workshop begins in Chiang Mai this week, followed by Khon Kaen (August 27–29), Bangkok (September 1–3), Ubon Ratchathani (September 3–5), and Nakhon Si Thammarat (September 8–10).

The government views this initiative as a cornerstone in its broader plan to expand Thailand’s digital workforce, provide green and sustainable jobs, and prepare the younger generation for the global digital economy. By embedding digital officers in every district, the program also ensures that rural communities are not left behind in the shift toward online services and innovation.

Prasert added that these positions will empower local people, especially youth, by giving them tools to succeed in a fast-changing job market. “This project creates immediate jobs, but more importantly, it builds a digital foundation for Thailand’s future,” he stressed.

With nearly 900 new officers deployed, the One District, One IT Man project marks a significant milestone in Thailand’s journey toward becoming a digitally inclusive nation.
