The successful candidate will contribute to the development of regional strategies, support national programs, assist in the oversight of regional portfolios, and have direct access to program planning and international cooperation. Another important intern position at UNIDO headquarters in Vienna is in the Human Resources Department. Interns accepted to this position will join the Talent Planning and Acquisition department and learn about recruitment strategy, organizational development, and HR policy implementation in a large United Nations organization.
They will have the opportunity to help manage the internal talent pipeline, understand staff dynamics, and support administrative functions that are central to UNIDO’s broader mission. The role includes research and programmatic activities in support of industrial development initiatives, including strategic planning at the national level, partnership building, and program development in line with regional UNIDO priorities. In Latin America, UNIDO is also recruiting interns at its Colombian representative office in Bogotá. As part of this role, interns are expected to help facilitate workshops, create communication materials, write briefing notes, and support project development. This role aims to develop an understanding of regional industrial development issues and provide the intern with practical experience in UN program coordination, stakeholder engagement, and strategic policy processes for sustainable development.
Internships are also available in Southeast Asia. The UNIDO office in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, is seeking interns to perform desk research, project planning, training training, and participation in thematic working groups. The candidate for this position will conduct research on national industry priorities, participate in consultations and contribute to the development of UNIDO communications.
Hands-on experience in project planning and a country’s industrial development is a great opportunity for students who are passionate about bridging the gap between global missions and local implementation. The UNIDO Internship Program is structured to accommodate a variety of formats. Most internships last from 3 to 6 months, but internships fully sponsored by partner institutions can last up to 12 months. However, extensions beyond the agreed period are usually not allowed.
According to UNIDO’s own guidelines, interns must be enrolled in an academic program (bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral degree) or begin their internship within one year of graduation.

As part of major changes to its internship policy, UNIDO has introduced a monthly stipend for interns from September 2025, allowing a wider range of candidates to participate in the internship program.
