United Nations Announces New Volunteer Opportunities for Young Professionals; How to Apply
The United Nations has opened a new round of volunteer opportunities aimed at young professionals seeking to build international development experience as of November 2025. The latest recruitment drive includes both in-person and remote assignments across multiple UN agencies, with placements available in fields such as programme management, climate action, economic development, communication, humanitarian support, data analysis, and technology.
A significant number of placements fall under the UN Youth Volunteer category, designed for candidates under 30 who are looking to gain entry-level professional experience within the UN system. These positions offer structured assignments ranging from six months to a year, with many based in UN duty stations in Africa, Asia, the Middle East, and Europe. In addition to physical deployments, the UN is also recruiting online volunteers who will contribute remotely to research, content development, reporting, translation, technical support, and other digital assignments.
Young professionals selected for international deployments receive a volunteer living allowance, travel support, medical insurance, and other benefits depending on the duty station and assignment type. Online volunteering, while conducted remotely, still provides official credentials and involvement in United Nations projects without the need to relocate.
The organization has encouraged early applications due to the high volume of interest in youth opportunities each year. Interested applicants are required to register on the UN Volunteer portal, create a profile, and apply to open roles that match their skills and academic background. The UN emphasized that volunteer service remains one of the most reliable pathways for young professionals to gain visibility, improve their competitiveness for future UN jobs, and contribute to global development priorities.
