Youths Encouraged to Tap into Online Job Opportunities.

Young people across the country have been urged to embrace online job opportunities as a means to earn a living and contribute to the overall economic growth.
Kenya stands out in the region for its advanced internet connectivity, supported by six submarine cables originating in Mombasa. The government is also working on expanding the country’s digital infrastructure by installing 100,000 km of high-speed fiber optic cables. However, more efforts are needed to ensure reliable connectivity in remote areas.
As part of its broader strategy to bolster the digital economy, the government has outlined a comprehensive Kenya National Digital Master Plan (2022-2032). This plan includes the establishment of 25,000 internet hotspots nationwide, aimed at providing accessible internet services to youth, entrepreneurs, and innovators.
Leveraging this digital transformation, multinational company DDB has launched an online application promotion platform. This platform collaborates with major global content-sharing platforms such as YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook to offer brand formation and advertising media engagement services to local and international clients.
Philip Righa, DDB Kenya’s Manager, emphasized that the platform is designed to help businesses increase app downloads, visibility, and ratings while also providing Kenyans with opportunities to earn money through online tasks.
“This initiative has the potential to alleviate poverty within our communities. All that is required is a smartphone, internet access, and about 20 minutes of your time. By enrolling in DDB, individuals can earn money through simple online tasks,” Righa explained.
He further detailed that these online tasks involve engaging with everyday applications that people already use on their devices. By completing assigned tasks, users help promote these applications to a broader audience, leading to increased usage and revenue generation. In return, application developers pay DDB, which then compensates registered workers.
Righa also called on the government to enhance internet access across all regions, ensuring that all youth can benefit from such opportunities. “We urge the government to expand 4G and 5G networks to every part of the country so that more citizens can enroll in DDB and start earning through online work,” he appealed.
Speaking in Mombasa during the launch of DDB’s second office in Kenya, located at Buxton Point Apartments, Righa emphasized the company’s commitment to expanding job opportunities and improving task efficiency. The first office was established in Nairobi.
Zephrine Rigah, another key figure at the event, encouraged full-time employees to take advantage of online jobs to supplement their incomes. “If you get the chance, make use of it and invite your friends to join. Online jobs offer a viable alternative at a time when white-collar jobs are scarce and often demand experience that many young people lack,” he noted.
Rigah further advised the youth to view online jobs as a stepping stone toward greater opportunities. “Instead of sitting idle at home waiting for financial support from parents or relatives, young people can earn their own money, giving them financial independence and the freedom to spend as they wish,” he concluded.
With the rise of the digital economy, Kenya’s youth have a unique opportunity to harness technology for financial growth and career development. The expansion of online work platforms like DDB could significantly contribute to reducing unemployment and boosting economic empowerment.
