The Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) is a State Corporation mandated to carry out health research, innovation, capacity building, and service delivery for the improvement of human health and quality of life. Internship Program Overview

The KEMRI Internship Program (KIP) is designed to offer youth, particularly recent graduates, an opportunity to gain technical and practical skills in the field of health research. The program will provide hands-on experience in various research centers and departments across Kenya, enabling the participants to gain a competitive edge in the job market after the completion of their internships.

Internship Opportunities Available:

KEMRI is recruiting young, dynamic, self-driven, and inquisitive individuals with Diploma or Bachelor’s degrees in different fields to join their research centers and departments. The internship locations are spread across multiple regions, including Nairobi, Kilifi, Kwale, Kisumu, Busia, Kirinyaga, Mandera, and Eldoret.

  • Biochemistry/Chemistry/Analytical Chemistry – 3 positions

  • A range of positions for graduates in Biomedical Sciences, Medical Laboratory Sciences, IT, Social Work, Sales and Marketing, Business Administration, Health Records, Nursing, and more.

Application Requirements:

  • Applicants must have graduated and hold the relevant certificates.
  • Be a Kenyan youth below 30 years of age.
  • Provide a Certificate of Good Conduct.
  • No prior work experience in the relevant field is allowed (must not have undertaken any other internship or work experience since graduation).

Personal Attributes:

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Analytical and goal-oriented mindset.
  • Self-motivated and passionate about the health sector.
  • Integrity and computer literacy.

Additional Information:

  • The internship will not lead to permanent employment after completion.
  • A monthly stipend of KES 25,000 for Bachelor’s degree holders and KES 15,000 for diploma holders will be provided.
  • Interns are expected to take up personal accident cover and medical insurance.
  • Incomplete applications will not be considered.
  • Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.
  • Providing false information and documents is a criminal offense.
